Demand for mental health skyrockets

SAN FRANCISCO, April 08, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Modern Health, a leading workplace mental health platform supporting 220+ enterprises globally, reports impressive growth and progress against an innovative product roadmap in the first quarter of 2021. Modern Health announced the close of its $74 million Series D funding round bringing its total investment to $172 million and valuation to $1.17 billion and the acquisition of mental health startup Kip to further expand the company’s suite of mental health solutions and analytics.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen a huge increase in demand for mental health support. Our first quarter of 2021 represented many significant milestones for the organization, including raising $74 million in new capital, hitting unicorn status faster than any other entirely female led company in the U.S., more than tripling our employee headcount since March 2020, and releasing several new products and modalities of care to meet that demand head-on,” said Alyson Watson, founder & CEO of Modern Health. “I’m incredibly proud that we continue to exceed financial, customer, and innovation milestones, all while making huge strides in destigmatizing mental health and increasing accessibility of mental health support for employees across the world. Workforces have never needed mental health support more than they have over the last year, and we’re laser focused on supporting these people-first companies.”

The global pandemic accelerated the need for better mental health support in the workplace and Modern Health has been quick to respond by launching new modalities of care, like live provider-led group support sessions, and product innovations over the last three months as needs and demand evolve.

“Our empathetic and responsive team has enabled Modern Health to evolve quickly and efficiently to meet the needs of the past year,” adds Watson. “Since March 2020 we’ve doubled our customer base and rolled out 110+ new in-app digital courses tailored to the unique challenges of 2020 from preventing burnout to social isolation to parenting in a pandemic. We witnessed the surge in demand for mental health support prompted by the challenges of the year and set up an entirely new modality of care to provide live provider-led group support for more people - Circles.”

Circles are live, provider-led group sessions – available to both Modern Health members and non-members alike – that provide a judgement-free space for individuals to learn, share, and find community on topics that impact their wellbeing. Modern Health has also launched advanced client on-demand reporting as well as introducing a weekly audio series, The Reset, available exclusively to members to dedicate just a few minutes each week to recharge, declutter their mind, and be present in the moment.

Modern Health has continued to onboard key hires remotely including two industry veterans, Kostja Mirkovic, who joins the team as Vice President, Revenue Operations and Strategy and Lisa Giacinti, taking up the Vice President, Partnerships role. Mirkovic joins with a wealth of strategy and operations experience having held leadership roles at companies including LinkedIn and Credit Suisse, following his time as consultant with Bain & Co. Giacinti brings decades of experience in the healthcare field, most recently leading partnership and channel efforts at Kindbody and Castlight Health.

“I’m thrilled to be joining a company that is changing the future of mental health in the workplace,” comments Mirkovic. “I am passionate about solving problems at scale that will help people live longer, healthier, and happier lives and I have been incredibly impressed at how Modern Health is helping both organizations and individuals. Modern Health is a company that is truly changing the healthcare landscape and I’m honoured to be part of its journey.”
